Hong Kong ~ November 2007

This first video is from the (free) zoo I like here in Hong Kong. It's near the Peak Tramway on Hong Kong Island. The Buff-cheeked Gibbons are a hoot to watch. In this video, you'll see a mother gibbon swinging around her cage with her baby clinging to her belly. She went around and around the cage for a very long time. I've never seen her quite so animated.

Here's some info on the gibbons from www.cincinnatizoo.org:

Buff-cheeked Gibbon
Hylobates gabriellae

Spending its life in the trees, the gibbon is known for its specialized form of swinging locomotion called brachiation. Bending its slender fingers, the hand forms a hook. Reaching out a long and powerful arm, it hooks onto a branch and swings itself forward to the next one.
