Quick Raffi update
Here's a short video we took of Raffi after her subcutaneous water injection.
She was dehydrated after her recent illness. The doctor offered two choices: stay overnight in the hospital on an IV or go home with us, but with water injected under the skin. The water then gets absorbed into the system with the same net effect as the IV.
We chose the latter. Raffi was a real trouper and handled the whole ordeal quite well. When the water was injected under her skin, it looked sort of like a water balloon under her fur. She, of course, didn't understand what had happened and tried to sort of shake the thing off her back. Once she did that, the water eased down both her sides. The video doesn't show the results very well, but it was interesting all the way around.
Fortunately, she now seems to be well.

Blogging from afar

The tall building in the picture is Taipei 101, currently the tallest building in the world. It's located right next door to our hotel. In fact, I just got breakfast over there in one of the bakeries. Among other things, I had sweet potato bread. It's interesting.
The best time for me to update my blog is when I'm on the road. However, I run into some unique problems. For one thing, many of my trips are to or through mainland China. The Chinese government censors access to many things on the Internet and blogs are on the list. I've found that I cannot access any site that has the word 'blog' anywhere within the URL. So I can't update the blog from China.
However, today I'm in Taipei and the Taiwanese are blessedly more lenient about these things.
This next photo is from a friend and fellow pilot. This is a lake in Alaska:

I got to go back to Cologne recently. The Dom (cathedral) is, of course, magnificent. It has been a few years since I've climbed the many, many steps to the top, so we did that this trip. That was great fun. But what's also neat about the terrazzo surrounding the Dom is that it's a great gathering place for all kinds of people.
You have beggars, tourists, locals of all shapes, sizes, and colors. You also have terrific artists who create wonderful chalk drawings on the ground. Here are a couple pix of them taken by my friend:

Please note: I'm trying an experiment here. These images are much smaller sized--more like 170 kb versus a MB or so. Let me know how they appear on your screens.
From Taipei,
